Company: Hungry Jack’s is franchise of the international Burger King Corporation. They opened their first store in Perth in 1971 when flared trousers, large sideburns and Pink Floyd were all the rage. Within ten years they had grown to 26 stores in 3 states. Today Hungry Jack’s is one of the most iconic food brands. Hungry Jack’s are committed to the development of their employees, through training and development, helping them retain their employees and generate a passionate company culture.

Summary: Hungry Jacks has introduced many improvements in various areas of its business by gathering information with the Exit Interview tool. The team has created a simple process to collect data from ex-employees by using the employee survey software. This process has revealed blind spots in its operations and has opened many possibilities for training. The tool is simple, quick and effective.

How useful has the collected information been?

It has been very valuable. The data has provided us information about facts that we did not know were occurring. All this process has opened up many training possibilities. We have made significant improvement in many stores.

What were your objectives when you decided to launch this tool?

Our main objective was to get the ‘Real Information’ of departing staff in our business utilising cutting edge employee survey software.

Did you achieve those objectives?

Yes, we strongly believed we receive great feedback from departing staff with our new exit interview process.

What kind of information and tips were you intending to gather with employee satisfaction survey?

We wanted to collect data on staff exiting the business. We wanted to find out why people were leaving Hungry Jacks, what we were doing well and which areas we were able to improve.

Did you already have a process in place for these interviews before your new solution?

We did have a process for managers; we used to do it by phone or face-to-face interviews. However we did not have a process for crew members. Overall we lose approximately 10,000 employees a year. This is a big number to tackle, track down, complete and manage. Doing the process manually is not something we could do effectively. Our new online employee survey software has made things much easier.

How long did it take you to launch this tool?

It only took us couple of days to launch the tool. We designed the interview form, we asked stakeholders for feedback, made the necessary revisions, loaded the form on the platform and lastly we started asking people to participate.

How much prep work did you need to launch this tool and what value are the results for employers?

Surprisingly it took us very little to launch the tool. Basically we surveyed the team to find out what kind of information we wanted to gather and then we formulated the right questions to collect that information.

What percentage of the people that leave do the interviews?

Approximately 30 % of the people do the exit interview which provides a solid amount of information for improvement.

How useful has the collected information been?

It has been very valuable. The data has provided us information about facts that we did not know were occurring. All this process has opened up many training possibilities. We have made significant improvement in many stores.

What is the exact process and what tips do you have in order to have the ex-employees to fill the exiting interviews?

Our actual process is as follow:

  • Create a report for our requirements.
  • Set up interview account logins by employee levels.
  • Automatically gather information as employees leave the business.
  • Analyse stats
